THE FLOWER STALL
by Alfred Glendenning Jr (1861-1907)
After
dusk, the left bank of the River Seine has been the most alluring
place for lovers, particularly on the lower quay below the
wall painted here. No less as enticing a location but for
day-time romantics - here on the promenade above, are the
flower stalls which display fresh blooms. The allure of the
bewitching fragrances seem to slow down the many who frequent
this busy part of the ancient city of Paris.
The sellers themselves set up their stalls with hoping that
the temptations will bring them a little income for the day.
This
once Roman city, built over 2,000 years ago, has probably
never been without its flower sellers.
